How do I choose the right stove for my home?
The choice of a stove depends on several factors: the area to be heated, the level of building insulation, the layout of the rooms and your individual heating needs. Can I install a stove if I do not have a chimney?
Yes. The lack of a traditional chimney does not rule out installing a wood stove. In most cases it is possible to install a modern flue pipe or an insulated external chimney. The final solution depends on the building structure and applicable regulations.
Is a cast iron stove better than a steel stove?
Cast iron excels at storing heat. It heats up gradually and releases warmth for many hours, even after the fire has gone out. This provides a more stable temperature, greater comfort and exceptional durability. That is why DOVRE has been manufacturing its stoves and fireplaces from cast iron for over 90 years.
What is the best wood for a stove or fireplace?
The best fuel is well-dried hardwood such as beech, oak, ash or hornbeam. Wood moisture should be below 20% to ensure efficient combustion, limit particulate emissions and reduce buildup on the glass and in the flue.
What is the best method for lighting a wood stove?
DOVRE recommends top-down lighting, also known as the “Swiss method”. The largest logs are placed at the bottom of the firebox, with smaller pieces, kindling and firelighter on top. The fire is lit from the top, which allows cleaner combustion, less smoke and higher appliance efficiency.
Are modern wood stoves environmentally friendly?
Yes. DOVRE stoves meet the requirements of the European Ecodesign standard and are designed to achieve high efficiency while limiting emissions. Combined with well-dried wood and the correct lighting method, they deliver cleaner burning, lower fuel consumption and a reduced environmental impact.
